🛒 Amazon Building Walmart-Like Supercenter

It’s a crossover battle that hopefully results in consumers emerging as winners.

Walmart and Target’s e-commerce efforts continue to compete with Amazon. But the one-time online bookstore continues to signal an interest in the groceries and physical retail sectors.

According to Business Insider, “that’s roughly the size of a newer, larger Walmart Supercenter.”

The store plans to offer groceries, general merchandise, “other services” and prepared food options. It also will allow customers to place and receive online orders at the new store.

Amazon currently operates more than 500 Whole Foods Markets, 58 Amazon Fresh grocery stores and 14 Go convenience locations.

Walmart operates about 4,600 stores in the United States. It commands more than one-fifth of the U.S. grocery market.

Amazon (including Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh) is much smaller in overall grocery sales, often estimated in the low single digits of total U.S. grocery share.
