💸 Is Paying With Cash Becoming Taboo?
Is cash “cringe?” Or is it still worth holding in your wallet and using to pay?
It depends on who you ask – and maybe when you were born.
More than half of Gen Z (born from 1997 to 2012) “are using physical cash as a last resort when paying” and nearly one-third “believe that people who pay with cash are either out of touch or cringe.”
However, more than half of the same generation acknowledges they’ll spend more without physical cash in hand.
Clark says you should keep $400 cash on hand in case of emergency. And says to avoid spending via debit card.
Beyond that, it’s a “know thyself” situation. If you manage credit well and can get cash back, use your credit card. If you’re poor with credit or are saving on a transaction fee paying in cash, well, being “cringe” in the eyes of the youth isn’t the worst thing.
