💵 How Many Credit Cards Is Too Many?

You need at least two credit cards from separate financial institutions, Clark Howard says. He calls it the Noah’s Ark Rule.

But if you’re into welcome bonuses, cards that pay out higher rewards for specific categories and cash back, you may find yourself filling up your wallet with new cards.

At what point do you need to stop to avoid hurting yourself financially?

A stack of credit cards, especially ones that you’ve applied for recently, can be a factor if you’re applying for a mortgage, Clark says.

But other than that, if you charge only what you can afford to pay for, have as many cards as you want,” Clark says.

He cautions that some people tend to start spending money they don’t have if they get a bigger and bigger credit limit.

“As long as you pay in full every month and your finances are rock solid, you’re living on less than what you make and you’re saving money, I’m not afraid of credit cards for you at all,” Clark says.
