🥪 Publix Now Lets You Drink and Eat While You Shop
Publix is a regional grocery store based in Lakeland, Florida, that operates 1,428 stores in eight states.
Why, then, is it curious to see Publix opening a “prototype” store layout popping up in new market Kentucky as well as Central Florida?
The new store format includes expanded offerings in the deli (burrito bowls, a pizza oven and pasta bars, for example, in addition to Publix’s already expansive offering) as well as a “Pours” area.
“Pours” features acai bowls, smoothies, locally roasted coffee, wine, beer and kombucha on tap that customers can consume while shopping for groceries (or, more boringly, in place at a table or countertop).
Clark has glowed in the past about Wawa and other convenience stores that upgrade the typical gas station experience with made-to-order food. He also is a huge fan of Costco (and its famously affordable food court).
Now it seems the trend is expanding even further. You no longer have to sneak a grape from the produce line or swoop into a free giveaway stand to enjoy a sip or bite while you shop for groceries.
If big box retailers and convenience stores are any indication, expect this trend to be popular.
