📀 Netflix: DVDs Out, Immersive In-Person Experiences In
Netflix just ended its mail-order DVD service. Now the streaming giant is focused on a different type of physical product.
According to Bloomberg, the company will open two “Netflix House” locations in the United States in 2025.
Inside of these destinations, fans “can immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite TV shows, shop for clothing, eat themed food and maybe even try a Squid Game obstacle course.”
Featuring “a mix of retail, dining and live experiences,” Netflix House sounds similar to Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk in Orlando. It’s not quite a theme park. But it’s theme park-adjacent.
According to Bloomberg’s reporting, Netflix House is primarily a response to criticism that the streaming company hasn’t successfully marketed the content on its platform.
“Management views Netflix House more as a way to promote its titles than as a meaningful source of revenue, at least for now.”.
